Valley Waste Contract Clarification
We apologize for the premature announcement of Valley Waste regarding the upcoming price increase and would like to share the events that led to the increase.
Valley Waste’s contract with Hopewell Township will be up on 12/31/22. In September of this year the Township advertised for bids for the new contract. Unfortunately, Valley Waste was the only company to bid on service to our residents through 2025. The price we received for service was substantially more than our current service. We decided to reject that bid and re-advertise, using new specifications. Despite that attempt, we once again only received only one bid, from Valley Waste. The price increase, even though it is less than their previous bid is a substantial increase from our current charges. Specification changes to keep the price as low as possible include changing from “Unlimited” to a 2 can limit not to exceed 100 gallons of garbage and one bulky item per month. Reasons given for the price increase include diesel prices, landfill prices and staff shortages.
This is our only remaining option. Residents are encouraged to attend our meeting on Monday, December 12th, 6:30 pm at the Municipal Building to voice any comments or concerns prior to execution of the contract.
